Come one, come all to the freak show that is the incredible (all be it dark and twisty) collaboration between two souls who were brought together by their love for photography years ago and hundreds of miles apart, only to have their friendships rekindled through their loves for literature and pretty much anything that makes you go WHAT THE HONEST FUCK!!!
When creatives collide it isn’t always pretty but it is real. To many times we find ourselves trying to bend or manipulate ourselves into what our version of “socially acceptable” looks like and in doing so it feels as though we start to look a base piece of what makes us creative in the first place. So Bobbie and I started questioning this theory one day and all the “whys” that haunt us started flooding in. Why exactly do we feel we have to moderate ourselves to conform? Why can’t we be weird and odd and twisty while still curing like drunken sailors and making art, not because it is perfect and glorious BUT because it makes are black little souls smile. The answer?!? There isn’t one BECAUSE there was never truly any question other than the one we need to find within ourselves. There is NOTHING holding us back. There is no rule book or etiquette to art and truly we don’t really care if you even like it. . . we just want to make it. We want to get off our lazy butts, stop feeling the wait of all the “whys” and start singing the eerie tune of BECAUSE WE CAN.
So here we are. After 10+ years of knowing one another (yet never actually meeting in person thanks to the wonders that are modern technology) we are finally putting together a wee space to let our traumatized voices sing in the siren song of DO YOU BOO.
SSSOOOOO, WELCOME to our very first collaboration WHOOP WHOOP!!!!
We knew we wanted to do something with a creepy horror vibe and since we are both rocking the bookstagram scene these days we thought what better motivation to actually get things rolling than to center this first collab around a horror novel and go from there. This image was a collection of 5 different images conceptually sewed together in Photoshop and we had such a hoot putting it together. It was a true work in progress the whole way through and the idea changed a bit although the concept pulled through and that is magic in itself (I just love it when the things I envision in my brain actually work out bwahahaha).
Image (and step) one - our location. An abandoned house in Kristey’s hometown filled with spiders and mouse shit and likely haunted by some oogie boogie.
Image two - The amazing Bobbie Jo in PanamaShitty matching the light and direction of the chair in which she will be magically place through the wonders of photo manipulation.
Images 3-5 - Kristey being here usually creepy self while wedging herself under a chair and looking and carzy (just a typical Sunday really)
So the other day I just so happened to stumble upon this perfectly welcoming, not at all ominous abandoned house. Once inside, I decided it to be the best place to snuggle up on, what was obviously NOT a bug and mold infested, chair and read a book. All good choices….
Little did I know I was not nearly as alone as I thought….
What would you do if you looked up from the book you were reading to find yourself surrounded by ghosts?! Leave us a comment and let us know!!!
You can also follow our bookstagram accounts (if you are so inclined and that is your jam).
